Relative Age Effect

The selection edge held by players born just after the cutoff date.

Inside one age group a player can be up to 364 days older than a teammate, and the older ones tend to be further along physically, which is what gets noticed at a tryout. Moving the cutoff date does not remove the effect, it only changes which birthdays are the young ones.
