A family of foxes living under a Leicester garden strikes a bargain with the ghost of Richard III, whose bones were found under a car park: dig him up properly and he will make Leicester City win the league. Morpurgo wrote it in the months after the club actually did.
Why we picked it
It takes the most improbable real result in football history and treats it as a fairy tale, which is roughly how it felt. A short, funny read for the age band where most soccer books get preachy.
