Academy
An unregulated label. Check the league the team plays in.
Nobody regulates the word "academy" and any club may print it on a program, so it carries no standing on its own. It does have a league sense: MLS NEXT's Allstate Homegrown Division is built from MLS academies plus 123 independent clubs it calls Elite Academies, so most "academies" in the top boys competition are not run by a professional team. The checkable question is which league the team plays in.
