Roster Spot

A guaranteed place on a team, distinct from playing time.

A roster spot is a confirmed place on a team. It does not guarantee playing time, and a spot on a top team can mean the bench. Caps are written into the rules: US Youth Soccer allows 22 on a team roster and 18 on a game roster, ECNL 30, MLS NEXT's Homegrown Division 28 per age group, and D1 college soccer programs 28.
