Eugene McGillicudy signs up for soccer expecting to be an instant star, discovers the ball does not cooperate, and has to work out what he is actually good at. His superhero alter ego is no help at all on a soccer field.
Why we picked it
It is the first-season book for a kid who just found out they are not the best player on their team, pitched at exactly the reading level where that happens.
