Luz is her team's best player until a knee injury ends her season and, it turns out, her identity as the soccer kid. She stumbles into coding, and a half-sister she did not know about arrives from Guatemala at the same time.
Why we picked it
Injury and the loss of a starting spot are the most common hard thing that happens to a youth player, and almost no book about girls' soccer is willing to sit in it. This one does, and it does not pretend the game was the only thing she had.
