Erin Leyden's hour-long ESPN film retells the 1999 Women's World Cup from inside the U.S. squad, built largely on video the players shot themselves that summer. It ends at the Rose Bowl final against China, settled on penalties in front of more than 90,000 people. It was made for Nine for IX, ESPN's series marking 40 years of Title IX.
Why we picked it
The home footage is what makes it, because it shows the team as young women messing about on team buses rather than as the poster on a bedroom wall. It pairs well with Dare to Dream, which covers the same years from the outside.
