Goal! The Dream Begins
Santiago Munez is a young undocumented immigrant in Los Angeles with a real gift for soccer and no clear way to use it. A former player turned scout spots him and arranges a trial with Newcastle United in England, and Santiago has to weigh what he is willing to risk to chase the game. The story continues in Goal II: Living the Dream (2007), which follows a move to Real Madrid, and Goal III: Taking on the World (2009), set around the World Cup.
It is one of the few films that walks the real pathway from local pickup games to a pro trial abroad, so it gives you a way into talking with a soccer kid about talent, luck, sacrifice, and the parts of the journey nobody controls.
